Senior Backend Engineer

Description

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs
• Take ownership of backend components throughout the full software development lifecycle, from technical design to deployment and production support
• Design and implement robust, maintainable and testable solutions aligned with business and technical requirements
• Lead the development of complex features and provide technical guidance to less experienced developers
• Define and promote best practices in software architecture, coding standards, testing and code quality
• Analyse and optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, and resource utilisation
• Design and manage efficient database solutions, including data models, queries, migrations and performance optimisation
• Integrate internal and third-party services using REST APIs, messaging systems, and other integration patterns
• Contribute to architectural decisions and proactively identify technical risks, bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement
• Review code and provide constructive feedback to ensure high engineering standards across the team
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Frontend Developers and other stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues, ensuring system stability and minimising downtime
• Contribute to CI/CD, monitoring, logging, observability, and overall engineering automation
• Participate in technical planning, estimate, and refinement of development tasks
• Continuously evaluate new technologies and approaches to improve the quality, scalability and maintainability of the platform

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in Java and Spring Boot development within production environments
• Strong expertise in Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven architecture
• Advanced knowledge of Spring Security and PostgreSQL, including transaction management and isolation levels
• Proven experience with OIDC/JWT-based authentication and authorisation solutions
• Familiarity with Test containers and contract-first development approaches using OpenAPI

Nice to Have:

• Experience with BPMN workflow engines such as Flowable or Camunda
• Knowledge of multi-tenant system architectures
• Hands-on experience with object storage solutions, including Amazon S3 or MinIO
